A
private detective about to enter the Army investigates the murder of a cop by
gangsters who are in the stolen tires racket. Along the way he is helped by
Helen Parrish the pretty girl who plays records by request. We remembered her
from You'll Find Out, a great old movie with Kay Kyser & Co.The cast does a good
job and there are some recognizable faces. You will recognize Neil Hamilton who
played Comissioner Gordon on the 1960s Batman series and Anne Jeffreys who
played Marion Kirby in the Topper TV series. Also Esther Muir who was the blonde
Groucho pursued in A Night At The Opera and Dick Wessel who was in many many
movies. 4 stars.
The Big Trees
Kirk Douglas. What can I say? An outstanding
performance in this movie and has a lot of top stars backing him up all the way.
This movie keeps you on edge waiting and guessing what he and his best friend as
well as a multitude of others in the cast will do next. This show will keep you
in suspense right up to the end. I loved it and Kirk as far as I know has never
starred in a bad production. This has some really beautiful scenery, color and
the script is well written. "Another fine show" says Travis in California.
Carnival of Souls (1962)
Mary
Henry is enjoying the day by riding around in a car with two friends. When
challenged to a drag race, the women accept, but are forced off of a bridge. It
appears that all are drowned, until Mary, quite some time later, amazingly
emerges from the river. After recovering, Mary accepts a job in a new town as a
church organist, only to be dogged by a mysterious phantom figure that seems to
reside in an old run-down pavilion. It is here that Mary must confront the
personal demons of her spiritual insouciance. There are a number of surreal and
creepy scenes in the film. The scene where Mary (Candace Hilligoss) goes to the
abandoned carnival during the day has a surreal, dreamlike and sensual beauty.
