Humor being subjective, one may or may not find something humorous because it is either too offensive or not offensive enough. Comedy is judged according to a person’s taste. Some enjoy cerebral fare such as irony or black comedy; others may prefer scatological humor (e.g. the "fart joke") or slapstick. A common gender stereotype that plays on this convention is that men love the comedy of The Three Stooges, while women do not.
Mel Brooks on comedy and tragedy: "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall down an elevator shaft and die."
Comedy is the term applied to theatrical dramas, the chief object of which are to amuse. It is contrasted on the one hand with tragedy and on the other with farce, burlesque, and so on. As compared with tragedy, it is distinguished by having a (the comedies)". Humor)is the ability or quality of people, objects, or situations to evoke feelings of amusement in other people. The term encompasses a form of entertainment or human communication which evokes such feelings, or which makes people laugh or feel happy.
So's Your Aunt Emma (1942)

Zazu Pitts is fabulous as the smalltown Aunt Emma who goes to the big city for a boxing match and is mistaken for a lady gangster. She decides to play along for some great comedic moments. The meek middle-aged spinster, down-trodden by her two older sisters at home, makes a sentimental visit to the big city to see the boxer son of her long dead childhood beau. There she finds him falling victim to the fight rackets, and is herself caught in the crossfire between rival gangsters, who mistakenly believe that she is the eponymous head of the notorious Ma Parker gang. Teaming up with a sports reporter juggling his work and his love life, she employs her own unique blend of naive innocence and no-nonsense realism to see that everybody gets their just deserts, herself included.5 Stars. Enjoy.
The Road to Happiness (1941)
Jeff
Carter (John Boles), a singer down on his luck, turns to radio acting as a means
of supporting his young son Danny (Billy Lee.) With the support of his son and
his press agent Charley Grady (Roscoe Karns), Jeff ultimately finds radio the
means of realizing his professional ambition.
John Boles brings you the finest emotional hit of his career!
My Man Godfrey (1936)
"My
Man Godfrey" is truly one of the greatest films of the 20th century. Between
comedy and romance, a great moral and wise words are nestled. The film's theme
can best be stated by Godfrey's own words: "The only difference between a man
and a derelict is a jobIn the depths of the Depression, a party game brings
dizzy socialite Irene Bullock to the city dump where she meets Godfrey, a
derelict, and ends by hiring him as family butler. He finds the Bullocks to be
the epitome of idle rich, and nutty as the proverbial fruitcake. Soon, the
dramatizing Irene is in love with her 'protege'...who feels strongly that a
romance between servant and employer is out of place, regardless of that
servant's mysterious past.
